AI and human guidance

Recent AI advancements are stunning. I’ve watched LLMs generate working code with minimal input. However, after countless updates, I now firmly believe AI will always need human oversight. Why? Its intelligence lacks the nuance of human thought.

Our creativity and emotional depth are shaped by a rich tapestry of personal experiences: joy, trauma and all kind of emotions. LLMs cannot replicate this unique blend without our guidance.

Despite regrouping almost all human knowledge, these models still rely on subtle, human direction to produce accurate results. I see their limitations daily. They often need a gentle nudge or a specific hint to navigate complex conversations and deliver meaningful answers.

Let me share two personal examples where human guidance was crucial.

The GitHub Hurdle: Connecting Chatbot Components

I faced a major challenge while setting up my Chat4Us project on GitHub. I struggled to integrate the chatbot server with its separate components: the agent messenger and the web client.

We ran them on different machines for individual testing. Yet, smooth communication between them proved elusive. I exhaustively researched self-signed certificates and sought AI advice. Despite numerous attempts, no solution worked.

Finally, I suggested rewriting the code using the Bouncy Castle library. This specific human insight was the key. Our components connected seamlessly immediately after.

The Nginx Attack: A Configuration Revelation

My first experience with Nginx on a new VPS brought another surprise. The setup was initially successful, but my website was soon flooded with tens of requests per second to //xmlrpc.php.

The attack came from countless IP addresses, making our hosting firewall useless. The AI model offered no solutionโ€”until I asked the right question. I specifically inquired about Nginxย locationย block positioning. The model instantly recognized my mistake, provided a straightforward fix, and stopped the attack. It even began with the famous AI-models sentence: โ€œYou are rightโ€ฆโ€.

The Crucial Takeaway: Learn to Partner with AI

These challenging situations were my best teachers. They showed me how to utilize AI effectively and identify its pitfalls.

This is precisely why everyone must study and familiarize themselves with AI. You need to master the basics of interaction. More importantly, you must learn to craft optimal prompts. This skill unlocks the full potential of LLMs without wasting time or effort.

Ultimately, by guiding AI, we unlock a new world of possibilities and harness the incredible power within these technologies.
